Really good chili. I added a tin of pinto beans and a can of tomatoes with green chilies. We like our chili a petty spicier and then I went ahead and added some other tablespoon of chili powder near the finish. I cooked information technology on high for 5 hours, and spooned it over a corn bread casserole topped with sour foam and cheese. Yum!!
07/16/2012
This was a great recipe!! The simply thing I changed, was calculation one actress tin of tomato sauce. I decided to exercise this considering information technology was very solid. The extra sauce made it the best chili I've had!

Spicy Slow-Cooked Chili Haiku: "Halved the recipe. And it fed 4 perfectly. Glad I skipped 'cook's notation.'" So I followed the recipe, halving information technology, and upon coming dwelling from work to the wafting wonderful aroma of chili, despite information technology being a sticky hot summer solar day (I'll make chili once a week regardless of the fourth dimension of year or weather!), because following the cook'southward note about adding more cayenne pepper. Took a nibble and passed on the additional spice, b/c it was plenty spicy and pretty tasty.

Made this today for a group of friends and my boyfriend for Dominicus Night Football - everyone loved it. Very hearty and flavorful, juicy but not likewise sparse at all. I was a little worried about it being too dry at first but after the 3rd 60 minutes on high in the slow cooker information technology really got a nice broth. Overall, it was groovy and everyone said the season was crawly. I adopt my chili on the spicier side and then I just added some fresh jalapeno slices and cayenne hot sauce on tiptop of my shredded cheese and sour cream. My one friend who doesn't actually like anything besides spicy said it was perfect. I will definitely make this again!

All-time chili I've ever had! I followed the recipe exactly except I omitted the beans because beans are nasty. :)
09/08/2012
My family'southward favorite chili recipe. Works corking equally a half batch by halving the recipe. I tend to use powdered garlic instead of diced every bit I hate chopping garlic, and information technology tastes just fine. It also works surprisingly well as an alternative to sandwiches for packed lunches. It both reheats and stores well. Plus, one can feasibly make a week'due south worth of lunches while sleeping, if they put it in the slow cooker on low earlier bed on Sunday night...
12/09/2012
I halved this recipe to avoid making as well much and made information technology *almost* exactly as the ingredients are written (with the exception of accidentally adding all iii Tbsp of the chili powder) and it was delicious. Even the picky eater in the family unit, my husband, loved information technology! He spooned it over warm tortilla fries and added lots of freshly grated cheddar cheese. Am planning to brand this again today!
08/30/2012
I didn't like this recipe so much and didn't realize why it was so thin in texture until my wife asked if I put any tomato paste in it. Plus, it was too bland, non enough spice. Other than those two bug information technology was alright.
11/06/2012
Like shooting fish in a barrel and delicious! VERY spicy, with the tablespoon of Cayenne pepper! But I'm in Arizona, then information technology fit right in. :) The only change I made was to add together a piffling oregano and cumin, just because. Information technology seems to become LESS spicy as it sits ... leftovers weren't as searing. This is great over rice, too!
02/04/2013
I made this chili for a Super Basin political party, and information technology was a big hit. Information technology'southward solid and basic enough to appeal to a large group and to permit for add-ons every bit the cook chooses. I cooked the beef with celery, added some stale oregano and cumin, and popped in halfway through cooking one chopped jalepeno and an extra tin can of tomato sauce for a nice broth. Will be using this recipe again for sure. The long cooking time is great for folks who are gone a full work day.

Expert recipe, with some alterations for a little more than spice and flavor (Note, my suggestions are based on halving the recipe) 1) I used 93% lean ground turkey, to go far healthier (with all of the spice and the long cooking time, I was not missing the ground beefiness at all!) 2) Cut a fresh jalepeno in half and permit it melt with the chili (fished it out earlier serving) -- added a prissy spice, but not as well hot 3) Added 1 tsp of crushed red pepper flakes 4) Added 1 tsp of nutmeg, for depth of flavor 5) Added 1 tbsp of Italian seasoning 6) Added an extra clove of fresh minced garlic vii) Added 1 tbsp of garlic powder 8) Cut the onion in half, rather than minced inside of the chili and fished onion out before serving and so you get the flavour, but non pieces of onion throughout (i hate biting into cooked onion!) nine) Added 1 tbsp of tomato paste 10) Used 1 large can (28 oz) of diced tomatoes (aye, even for 1/two recipe), as chili was manner too chunky
08/29/2012
Perfect as is.

This was the BEST chili I have ever made!!! The only thing I add was a pound of hot sausage. My husband said that this is a KEEPER... Thank you soooo much for sharing :)
ten/02/2014
This chili is fantastic. Many "spicy" chilis don't have a flavor to dorsum up the spice; they're just spicy to be spicy. This recipe turns out a chili that's got a adept kicking and a fantastic, complex flavor too.
01/21/2013
This is a delicious chili recipe. My husband loved it. The only change I made was cut the cayenne pepper measure out in half. I will definitely brand this chili again.
12/30/2012
Loved this recipe. I swapped out ground beef with ground turkey but I followed the residual of the recipe. Family members loved it! Definitely will cook once more :-)
xi/x/2013
This is the all-time chili recipe I've ever tried! If yous don't like things really spicy I would recommend non adding every bit much cayenne and chili powder but I thought it was perfect! Makes a lot so plenty for friends and family! I practice like peppers so to customize it to my own taste I added one more pepper and a petty less onion merely that's merely my preference. Also, I used 24 ounces of sauce - I'm non sure how all the spices could fifty-fifty be stirred in with just 8oz of sauce. A few of my friends tried this recipe and I gave them a heads up on this. They agreed and used more than sauce and said it was perfect!
06/26/2014
Used i pound of beef and it was nonetheless bully. I idea information technology was going to be actually thick when I offset put everything in, simply it balanced out nicely by the finish. I do prefer a hearty chili. Must be a wuss considering this was besides spicy for me! And then I will cut down adjacent time. Still, really great flavor. I like to cascade chili over salad greens every bit dressing and poly peptide all in one and this was keen for that.
xi/xiv/2012
Very good recipe and easy to play around with. Changes I made: I used i can of red and i can of white kidney beans, added 2 cans of lycopersicon esculentum sauce, used 1lb basis beef and 1lb of basis pork, added celery and the onions to the meat near the end of cooking, didn't drain the 28oz can of diced tomatoes and I added a lot more garlic, cayenne and chili pulverization. After those changes information technology was a matter of taste preference. I may take added a bear on more salt and I added a red garlic sansel and maybe a touch of oregano. The changes might not accept been necessary and the base of operations recipe would have been good for the average cook. If you do want to sparse out the original recipe though I would recommend adding either the extra tin can of tomato sauce or non draining the diced tomatoes.
02/10/2013
I didn't accept cayenne and so I simply added a couple of teaspoons of hot sauce, an extra eight oz tin can of tomato sauce to thin it out but a tad, i can of canellini. beans & ane can of kidney beans simply because that's what I had on hand & I used ground turkey to make it a petty healthier. It was awesome!
09/07/2014
My husband and my fave Chili recipe......we add carrots or celery or corn a well....whatever veggies we have in the fridge!! It is sooo YUMMY!!!
01/19/2015
This is my 2nd time using this recipe...I supplemented beefiness for turkey...OMG!!! Delishhhhh
09/21/2013
This chili was absolutely delicious. I didn't retrieve it was too spicy, it was really but perfect. I added an extra tin of lycopersicon esculentum sauce equally well because it was looking as well dense. Everyone that ate it had seconds and left-overs didn't last long. I would definitely recommend this one!
03/09/2015
Loved this! I halved the recipe and further halved the cayenne and chili powder considering we're not really into overly spicy food. I added a fleck of cumin because chili is non chili without cumin and a chip of seasoned salt and white saccharide. It turned out bully! My only regret is that I didn't make the full recipe considering nosotros didn't get to take any leftovers!
03/01/2015
This is how my mom made her chili , I grew upward on the stuff, I have added 1 thing that I recall makes information technology taste ameliorate is add 1/2 jar of salsa, balmy, med or hot, whatever y'all prefer. Gives it a wonderful tangy sense of taste! Sandy
01/05/2015
Have made this several times, with slight variation. I actually use 1 lb of beefiness and i lb of turkey. Instead of cooking the meat in another pan, I practise everything in the crock pot. One less dish to wash! First add together the meat in the crock pot on low. In one case near cooked thru, drain and add all the other ingredients. I practice non drain the diced tomatoes since information technology needs the extra moisture. Great recipe!
09/xiv/2014
Very good recipe for chili; however, do NOT add a Tablespoon of Cayenne unless you like it REALLY spicy! Ruined my unabridged pot of chili! :(
02/24/2015
This recipe is very good. I didn't have diced tomatoes so I used crushed tomatoes and added a cup of water. I also added iii tablespoons sugar to cut the acid from the tomatoes. I also added a picayune cumin. succulent!!
ten/18/2015
Very good recipe! Just, every bit always I accept to add my own twist. I enjoy my chili really spicy! What I did was afterward cooking the ground beefiness I drained the grease out. I then used a food processor to chop upwards fresh hot ruddy peppers, jalapeños, onions, and bong peppers. I and so added this mixture to the pan of ground beefiness forth with chili pulverisation, crushed red pepper, salt, pepper, and a tin of tomato sauce. This really gets the flavored to melt right into the meat. I permit this cook together for nigh 5-7 mins. This also makes it easier to mix all together. Other than that I also added an additional can of tomato sauce as it was very thick. After cooking it together in my pan, I then put it all in my crock pot forth with the diced tomatoes and other ingredients!! Came out awesome!!! Will definitely be making this again!
02/09/2016
WON at a Superbowl Chili Cook-off with this recipe!!! Only change made was that I added "1/two tsp of Pappy's Hotest Ride in Town BBQ sauce". It's a not bad recipe without that added hotness, but it made it a prize-winner!
03/01/2015
I really like this uncomplicated recipe. I ended upwards non adding the cayenne pepper though to brand information technology a chip less spicy.
12/19/2014
I also felt that this was too dry. I didn't accept boosted tomato sauce and so I added eight ounces of V-8 juice and I was very happy with the results. I'll definitely be making this again.
12/01/2014
Way style to hot, I couldn't fifty-fifty eat it.
11/12/2016
I made it exactly according to directions, didn't change anything. Information technology'due south absolutely succulent! The unabridged house smells crawly...I propose making some cornbread on the side...
01/14/2016
My family LOVED this one. I did use the diced tomatoes with jalapeños AND I added ii spicy jalapeños to the mix. It was only the right amount of spice for my family (we similar items medium to slightly above medium). I always know a recipe is a success when my kids consume it as their afternoon snack when they become home from school. This recipe does make a lot of chili, and it is very filling.
03/01/2015
Great chili, simply fashion to thick for our liking. I merely thinned it with little beefiness stock and it was perfect. Didn't desire to use more love apple because this is beef chili.
02/23/2015
Very nice! I add or lesson cayenne pepper to suite our taste and add dark-brown rice to thicken and add actress nutrition.
01/23/2017
This chili is an excellent base recipe. I made it exactly as indicated, and we loved information technology! I institute that information technology had but a trivial too much onion for my tastes, so next time I volition reduce the onion by 25%, increment the kidney beans by 25%, and throw in a small tin of chopped light-green chiles. With these small adjustments, it should be absolutely perfect.
09/04/2016
will definitely make it over again, it was an all around striking.
11/21/2013
Came out succulent!
11/02/2014
I made this with a few changes and it came out amazing! I only used 1 lb of ground beef , ane onion, 1 can of beans I switched them to blackness beans, I used a 14oz can of tomato sauce instead of 8oz, I added corn, used 2 tablespoons of chili powder and 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper and served with tortilla chips :) my husband can't become enough!!
09/27/2015
Though this chili has a proficient flavor, information technology is considerably likewise spicy for us...I did cut the cayenne down to two tsp., as opposed to a full tablespoon, but it was still dynamite hot. Afterwards calculation 2 T. saccharide and 2 T. vinegar AND boiling a raw potato in the chili for a couple of hours, I finally tamed the mixture to our taste. Another tip...don't add extra liquid even though initially it seems dry out. Eventually the ingredients do liquify, and I concluded upwards leaving the lid off to allow it to thicken farther.
ten/19/2016
wonderful and piece of cake to brand
01/xiii/2017
I volition make it again and also put in a bit of pepperoni to make information technology just bit more sense of taste . My wife loved it likewise
12/26/2013
gustation is wonderful. I am probably going to cutting the cayenne pepper down next time, merely great dish overall
11/25/2014
A very practiced chili! Like others, I concluded up adding more lycopersicon esculentum sauce to thin information technology out somewhat. I must take used some very potent spices, because this came out HOT (and we like spicy)! I'll probably make it with most half the cayenne and a piffling less chili powder next fourth dimension.
11/10/2013
Our perfect chili! The only thing I changed is I get out out the cayenne (since my girl doesn't like spicy, but I personally loved it as is) and just set out the shaker then everyone else tin sprinkle in as much as they like. Without the actress spice it's a lot like Wendy's chili and leftovers (if there are any) reheat well and are groovy for nachos or on broiled potatoes. I piddling pull a fast one on I learned is to add a cup of water to the browning meat and information technology helps draw out more of the grease and even browns information technology faster.
02/xi/2016
Made exactly as written except lowered cayenne to 1 teaspoon. I felt 1 tablespoon would be to much for the one thousand-kids. Probably one of the top three chili'southward I accept tasted.
01/eighteen/2015
Love this recipe. I even added some cut up veggies for extra nutritional value.
10/29/2016
I've fabricated this many times over the last few years. It's a dandy simple recipe and anybody loves it that I've had over. The only thing I add together is a 2d pepper and more than chili powder and more cayenne to make information technology spicier.
06/08/2014
I've made this chili at to the lowest degree a half-dozen times. Recently though, I substituted IN footing lamb for the basis beef. It was even better.
08/07/2015
I cut the recipe in half since am simply cooking for one person. I used 1 lb. chili cutting beef 1 can drained kidney beans, two cans diced tomatoes (did Not drain), eight oz tomato plant sauce, 1 onion, ane bell pepper, 1 clove garlic, 2 T. chili powder, i one/2 t. cayenne, and blackness pepper and common salt to taste. Cheese upon serving. Put this in my v qt. cooker and but had to cook 4-5 hrs on Depression
01/04/2014
TWO THINGS TO SAY ... YUMMM YUUUUMMMM !!!
01/xiii/2017
Turned out out very, very well. Nice alloy of flavors.
02/xiv/2017
Fantastic Chili. Just accept to cut down on the cayenne pepper then my fiance can swallow it. But I remember its great as is.
x/04/2016
This is a keen recipe! Tin practise stove top as well....better the next mean solar day!
eleven/xiv/2014
I was skillful, but similar the name suggests, it's very spicy!!! Watch out!
01/03/2020
Made this dish SEVERAL times for pot lucks. The secret...add more time than the suggested time. The longer, the better. The spices come live, not too spicy, the longer it sits on low/warm in the pot. Stir occasionally.
09/25/2017
I did non mind it. but my two friends told me it was style to hot and spicy for them.
01/17/2017
This chile recipe is Succulent !!!! My married man and I LOVED it !!! I did as nearly of the reviews said, and doubled the corporeality of tomato sauce, and we fell in Beloved with this dish !!!! We volition definitely make again and again in the time to come !!!! Thanks for this recipe !!!!! BEST chile EVER !!!!!
02/03/2019
Great flavour. Side by side time I brand this I will use less cayenne.
08/19/2015
Altered it and put in hotter jalepenos. I thought it was great. Anybody else was sweating.
10/31/2018
This is so delicious. the simply thing I did different was add a package of chili seasoning. this is a keeper. what i want you try next fourth dimension is calculation a small can of pineapple chunks (yes it is very proficient) nearly 1 her earlier it'southward washed.
10/fifteen/2017
What a fantastic recipe! I've gotten and then many compliments on it and I love that it'south made in the tiresome cooker. I make the recipe exactly as is.
11/05/2017
This was wonderful the only thing I changed was I browned the onions and peppers and garlic after browning the meat and I also used two tomato sauces.
04/12/2016
Nifty base chili recipe. Typically I make 2 batches (large family). I make information technology as is and reduce the cayenne as some of the folks in my house don't like a lot of oestrus. For a spicier boot I add a small (I echo small) jalapeño and a half tablespoon more cayenne to the second batch. I also add a little flair to both batches by adding 12 oz of beer. Adds a overnice flavor.
11/17/2015
Fabricated this equally written except used ground turkey and added a sprinkle of cumin toward the end of cooking time. Nosotros were having a chili night at church building on a Sunday evening, then I assembled the night earlier, refrigerated it, and permit it dull cook all solar day Sun. Just has a bowl for lunch, (it'south at present Tuesday), and I think it's fifty-fifty better today.
04/29/2014
Yes, very delicious and like shooting fish in a barrel.
12/11/2016
This is my new go to on chilli. I used to buy the two alarm chilli packet simply this beats it hands down. Nosotros don't similar a whole lot of pepper hot so I practise leave out the cayenne pepper. You volition notice this is to much fresher tasting that any packet yous can buy. Try information technology you will like information technology!
01/07/2017
I halved everything on this recipe and used the tomatoes with jalapenos and tried it once with the pinto beans and another time with the kidney beans. not sure which I liked better just found it a easy and tasty repast.
01/02/2014
Dandy tasting chili. The second time I made it I did not use the Cayenne pepper, information technology
11/19/2019
Fabricated this for football games. Anybody just loved information technology. Easy to make. Just the right spice..love information technology!! Will make information technology over and over
11/13/2019
Good, wood make again
01/09/2016
This is cracking! I fabricated it every bit is except I cut down the spice to one tbsp. chilli powder and 1 tsp. cayenne. It was still a tad spicy for my mild tastes, but it does say so in the title! Just accept it seriously.
02/27/2019
Litty, added a pack of uncle Ben's Jasmine Rice. Needed more carbs in my diet. Burn down. Didn't apply crockpot.
03/05/2016
We used ground venison and the recipe was fantastic!!!! Thank you!!
12/27/2015
This is actually good! I did change a couple of things though. I added i 12 oz tin of tomato paste & ii more viii oz cans of love apple sauce. I just use ane/2 of the cayenne pepper the recipe called for since other reviewers thought that it was also spicy & I added one package of chili seasoning mix. I will definitely make this again.
01/26/2019
Topped with fresh jalapeño, habanero cheddar, and sour cream. Doubled the tomato sauce and substituted one can of pinto for 1 of the cans of kidney beans. Yum!
08/01/2017
First time making chili idea this would exist easy. It was. And well worth it. I added about double the chili powder and added a chopped habanero pepper which gave it some adept spice. Non as well hot though. Might add together some ghost chili excerpt next time.
01/14/2021
Loved it. I added an Jalapeño for added spice and information technology was corking.
04/08/2020
Awesome! I but add together a Serrano chili and it's nice and spicy!
ten/12/2015
It was like shooting fish in a barrel and very hearty. I will brand it again and like whatsoever chili recipe will add my ain twists on the recipe.
07/05/2016
Very flavorful and was fairly like shooting fish in a barrel to make. I spiced it upwards a little bit with some actress spices and they ate information technology all. Expert recipie
12/30/2013
This chili is and so yummy! I did a few different things...I halved the recipe, used deer meat, added some cumin (about 1.5 teaspoons) some garlic pulverization and a fiddling more tomato sauce than the recipe chosen for. VERY VERY GOOD! My married man actually liked it too. Cheers!!!!
01/03/2017
I found information technology a little too spicy without even adding any spice every bit it cooked, and had to add together actress hamburger, tomato sauce and beans to tame information technology down. Concluded upward with a large corporeality of chili, but it was very skillful. Froze a lot of information technology to enjoy later.
07/17/2019
Like nigh allrecipes recipes, it came out dandy. My family unfortunately can't handle spicy food and so i had to reduce some of the spices. Unremarkably If the recipe calls for two Tbsp of Chipotle chili pepper, i'll reduce the amount to 1 Tbsp and half. The same goes for pepper and any other spice. But it still came out great. My family loved information technology.
12/31/2017
Swell chili!!!!!!! Will brand again!!!!
02/eleven/2019
I followed the recipe exactly. Information technology turned out terrific. Made it to serve at my Super Bowl party. Everyone loved information technology....cause they had seconds and thirds!!
12/16/2014
I made this for a large Seahawk football game group, doubled information technology and accept to say it was amazing. Several people at the political party are pretty astonishing cooks too! Said it was the all-time. Loved information technology and am making it again this evening!
10/20/2014
I only made it and it tastes wonderful. Yummy!!
02/13/2016
Very good chili. I found there was a lot of liquid so adjacent fourth dimension I'll drain the tomatoes. Besides I only used half the cayenne and chili suggested in the recipe and it was perfect for my estrus resistant married man. I served it in a baked sugariness potato and with a kale salad. We had brownies from this site as well for dessert. Yummy supper for a very cold night!
eleven/08/2018
Neat! I did add more than cayenne pepper. Cheese and chives on top before serving. My husband loved it!
04/05/2017
This is ane of the best chili recipes I've always made and I've tried dozens. I made this with basis turkey for a healthier version. My fiance said it was sooo delicious. I will definitely be making this once more very soon and adjacent time with extra lean ground beef so I tin can compare the ii. The only thing I added was another can of lycopersicon esculentum sauce as it was a bit chunky for our liking and information technology was perfect.
09/18/2013
Best chili I've ever had or made. My husband fifty-fifty loved it, & he's picky. The only changes I made was I didn't drain the diced tomatoes, I used 2 cans of lycopersicon esculentum sauce, & added a little flake of water. Would've been besides thick for me otherwise. Has just enough kick without being too hot or spicy. This is the only recipe I'll employ from at present on. Thanks for posting!
10/24/2018
It was very very tasty. I added jalapeños for a little more than heat. It was a petty "soupy" for what I was expecting. But very very delicious.
12/03/2015
What surprised me the most is that when this starts cooking information technology looks relatively dry out. The recipe contains nigh no moisture (Drained beans, Tuckered tomatoes) so I was worried it might start burning to the bottom of the crock. I added most of a beer and even with that the top half of information technology was still pretty dry looking. Only I let information technology cook on low for an hour or then and it definitely has moisture. I also added Jalapenos and two Habaneros instead of the i bell pepper. Aye information technology was spicy, but nifty, simply enough "zest" in my stance. Tonight I'thou cooking information technology for the second time. This time I added a whole package of bacon, cooked, drained and crumbled. I as well did not bleed 1 of the cans of tomatoes. With the addition of the extra meat (bacon) I hope it won't hurt to accept that actress moisture. So far, five hours into the cooking cycle, it looks just great and my domicile smells delicious.
02/twenty/2020
Splendid recipe! I substituted jalapeños for the dark-green pepper, gave it simply the right boot.
06/22/2021
Make it vegan: I used 1 pack Quorn Meatless basis and one pack Garden beefless basis (merely throw in still frozen) to mimic the varying textures in chili, and it is Astonishing! It still cold and I can't stop eating. Tastes like I remember chili tasting as a kid which is the key to any classic recipe, isn't it? I won a chili cookoff with this recipe when I ate meat and at present I think its even better!
12/06/2021
Pretty good gustation merely very spicy, fifty-fifty though I cut the cayenne in one-half. I also thought it was a fiddling salty and so will probably skip the salt and let folks flavor on their own. I will definitely make it again.
